Command line printing to a raw USB printer

From a terminal run ‘sudo dmesg’. You should be able to see if usblp sees it:

The kernel module makes your printer appear as a device file

ls /dev/usb

Check to make sure you have permissions to use /dev/usb/lp0

stat /dev/usb/lp0

In most cases you need to belong to the ‘lp’ group.
You can now send stdout directly to the printer

./random2dymo > /dev/usb/lp0

Windows 10

Goto to Printers & Scanners
Select Add a printer or scanner
Select The printer that I want isn’t listed
Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings
Select the USB001 Virtual Port
Select the Generic - Generic/Text Only Driver
Give the printer a name “dymo-raw”
Share the printer with a short share name “dymo-raw”
Click Finish
Open a cmd prompt.
You can see if you’ve shared it correctly by typing

net view \\localhost

You can now send stdout directly to the shared printer

random2dymo.exe > \\localhost\dymo-raw
